Due to some unfortunate events this summer, our planned Lofoten-roadtrip couldn’t execute.
So, a quick shift and we did the shorter Gotland roadtrip instead.
As a bonus, I suggested we take the car somewhere south of Sweden and visit my parents on the way so Boel can see how they live etc.
Our route was Stockholm > Sölvesborg, via Västervik & Kalmar. And Sölvesborg > Mölle, via Lomma and Helsingborg. The way back home to Stockholm was Mölle > Stockholm via Höganäs and Halmstad.
We left the bed platform home this time, and slept at a hotel in Mölle. We booked the hotel the day before we departured and only went for price and accessibility to toilet in the room, and the choice fell for Mölle since it was within a good distance from Sölvesborg.
Mölle is a historic fishing village on the Kullen peninsula in southwestern Sweden that transformed into a famous turn-of-the-century international seaside resort, and is famous for being the first place in Sweden for Mixed bathing: Around 1890 at the Ransvik bathing spot, Mölle became the first place in Sweden where men and women were allowed to bathe together. Considered scandalous at the time, this free-spirited bathing life earned Mölle the nickname ”sin city” and drew elite visitors from across Europe. The craze grew so large that direct weekly trains ran all the way from Berlin to Mölle until the outbreak of World War I, at it´s peak there where over 50,000 yearly visitors.
I can highly recommend our hotel, Pensionat Strandgården. If you book it make sure to choose the ”panorama” room. You won’t regret it. The view is spectacular. Also their breakfast is one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Everything locally produced and sourced.
